About Paul Spelman

White House Guest

A native New Yorker, Paul graduated from Colgate University in 1989. Shortly afterward, he began his journalism career as a reporter for a community radio station in Telluride, Colorado.  Deciding to switch into TV, he embarked on an arduous cross-country road trip ("The Great Paul Spelman Job Tour") in search of an on-air reporting position, finally landing at a small station in Whiteville, North Carolina. From there he advanced to Wilmington, North Carolina and then on to Knoxville, Tennessee, before ending up in Washington, D.C.

While in Washington, he reported for the capital news bureaus of Tribune Broadcasting, Hearst-Argyle TV, and Conus Communications.  At various times he has also reported for the cable channel Tech TV and for the syndicated news program "First Business," worked as a newspaper reporter, and written essays for publications such as the Columbia Journalism Review and National Jurist.

Paul returned to school in 2004 at the University of Maryland School of Law. Graduating in 2007, he is now a practicing attorney in Washington, D.C., and lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with his wife Erin, their sons Billy and Jeremy, and their cats Jacob and Marvin.

Paul with a high ranking
White House official.
